Because information is useless if not shared.

For the moment and time is short - I just want to list a few links and documents that proved useful.
More to come.

Great software - free

  • PDFCreator. Create your PDF documents from just about any document. It appears as a new printer in the system. Cannot make it easier than that. Best of all, it doesn't add watermarks or little comments at the bottom of your newly created PDFs.

  • KeePass. Tired of forgetting the 895704757 UserIDs and PWs you have accumulated over the years ? Me too. Use KeePass and remember just one (Note: a solid one is preferred)

  • IZArc. Because sometimes Winzip and other simple archivers are not enough. Because you have partners that use cryptic formats to compress their files. This one should handle most of them.

  • ATNotes. Do you like these little sticky yellow papers for office use ? You can try the electronic version from a couple of vendors (including 3M, the original maker of Post-It Notes), but I got used to ATNotes.

  • X1 Desktop Search. The most valuable addition to software since the inception of spreadsheets and PIMs is arguably Desktop Search software.
If you manipulate large amounts of data, X1 DS indexes the content of ALL FILES on your computer and makes it searchable. X1 is the one I currently use although it is designed for rather advanced users. Yahoo Desktop Search is also based on X1 technology but I prefer the original.
A few other good solutions include Copernic Desktop Search and Exalead Desktop Search.

  • FoxIt Reader. If you believe that Adobe Reader takes too long time to load, use FoxIt. It's a breeze.

  • AM-Deadlink. Do you have thousands of favourites in your browser ? When is the last time you checked they were all valid ? AM-Deadlink will do it for you.

  • WinDirStat. Ever wondered why you don't have any space left on your drive ? Windirstat uncovers in a graphical way the massive monster files that clog your disk so you can decide on their fate.

  • Grisbi. If you don't have the use of MS Money and still need a decent software, Grisbi is made for you. Even if you need to play with exotic currencies like I do.
Software named after the immortal line "Touche pas au grisbi!" in the 1954 French movie "Les Tontons Flingueurs". You have to be French to like this type of humor, but the software is good enough for everybody.

  • Easy Cleaner. Slow PC, Low space, useless files ? Give your PC a chance.

  • SyncToy. Ever wanted to back up files or folders the simple way ? Microsoft SyncToy is made for you.

  • Qlock. Do you work with other countries or time zones ? Try Qlock. You can customize the cities.

  • ASAP Utilities. The best addition you can make to Microsoft Excel. About 200+ macros that come in handy.
    http://www.asap-utilities.com/
  • Gantt Project. MS Project is the reference, but you might not need such a heavy piece of software every day. Gantt Project might be enough for you to map projects, list tasks, assign resources etc.

  • FreeMind. Did you ever hear about mind mapping ? If you like this way of making notes or thinking, Freemind might help you. Easy to use and free.

Great Documentation - any subject

Great websites - any subject

  • UBS Research. Prices and Earnings, 2006 Issue.
Prices and wages around the Globe, for the main cities worldwide.
Did you ever thought about moving abroad ? Then, did you ever wonder how to evaluate the cost of your lifestyle elsewhere on Earth ? Do you need some background info about prices, costs and wages around the globe ? Of course, there are some sites and services aimed at professionals.
But because assymetric levels of information do not bid well for your successful negotiations, you might put this set of files from UBS to good use.
Refreshed every 3 years or so.

  • Oanda
Do you work with multiple currencies ? If yes, you might want to try Oanda's Currency Converter and Cheatsheets. You can also create cross currency tables with your most frequently used sets of currencies and save them in your favourites.
